Dtrike is a three-wheeled recumbent bike with one wheel in front and two wheels in the back. You sit between the rear wheels, which makes it very stable and easy to sit in. The seat height is about the same as in a passenger car, so you can see and be seen well in traffic. The pedals can be easily adjusted back and forth for riders of different heights. Behind the seat there is room for luggage and there are also the batteries. The motor is a 250w e-bike motor that runs a maximum of 25 km/h so it is completely legal and can be driven on both roads and cycle paths.
The front and roof are made of aluminum tubes and plastic sheets, and the sides are made of fabric. When the sun comes out, you can fold up the sliding doors and drive it in the open position. The roof also makes it possible to carry things on a roof rack (skis, surfboard, sun lounger, fishing rod).
Compared to PodRide this is a simpler model, a little longer, wider and more angular but with most of the advantages remaining such as weather protection, safety, cargo space and comfort.
Unlike PodRide, DTrike is designed to be easy to manufacture in small series. This makes it possible to test and start building a market for bicycle cars without having to invest in expensive tooling and large series up front.
Cycling is cheap, good for the environment and good for health. But still, few people ride bikes. In Sweden, 13% cycle in the summer but only 7% in the winter. So 600,000 cyclists puts their bikes away in the winter. Dtrike is designed as a safer and more comfortable all-weather bike. And should be able to appeal to many of those who park their bikes in the winter or when it rains.
